Dear Friend of the Hollywood,
We want to send you a reminder about our 90 for 90 campaign. If you’ve already given, thank you! (you’ll get an official thank you letter soon–if you haven’t already!). If you haven’t given yet, please consider a donation now.
Our campaign is moving along steadily. At the time this letter was written, we have raised $15,360—that’s over 17 percent of our goal. We are thrilled at the support we’ve received so far, but still have a ways to go to reach our goal of $90,000. We are currently exploring support from local foundations and sponsorships from area businesses, but are hoping you—our fans—will continue to give. With more than 14,200 Facebook fans, nearly 1,500 people signed up for our e-newsletter, and attendance up in the last month despite ongoing work to Potomac Avenue, we believe the community—at the region itself–is behind this little theater that the Tribune-Review described as “one of the most creative and unusual independent movie theaters not just in the South Hills, but the region at large.”
For 90 years, the Hollywood Theater has been an anchor of the Potomac Avenue business district, a landmark in our neighborhood, and a special part of the lives of Dormont area residents. Since 1926, when the stars flickered on both the screen and the ceiling, the Hollywood has been there. But this past summer we experienced $17,000 in unplanned HVAC costs, soaring electric bills, and a drop in attendance due in part to the ongoing construction on Potomac Ave. In order to keep the doors open and the lights on for years to come, we launched our 90 for 90 Campaign in August with the goal of raising $90,000 to pay off those bills and build a base for moving forward.
Revenue from movie tickets alone won’t keep our doors open. We need you to let us know that you support and value the Hollywood Theater by joining us in this campaign. Your generous support shows your commitment to the theater and allows us to continue bringing you entertainment like our classic and independent films, Breakfast and a Movie, events for the community, our STEM program for school kids, and the longest running Rocky Horror Picture Show performance in Pittsburgh.
